Assistant Professor and Principal Investigator
Inspired by the Human Genome Project and the new era of genomics, Anupam started his career as a biotechnology engineer before becoming a computational biologist. He realized the potential of network biology during his graduate research with Debasis Dash at CSIR – IGIB, New Delhi, where he studied genomic determinants underlying human–microbe interactions. As a postdoc in Anand Swaroop’s group at the NIH, he explored the dynamic biomolecular events that underlie onset of inherited retinal degenerative diseases. His fundamental curiosity lies in how genetic inheritance, whether disease or traits, manifest at distinct stages of our lifetime. The goal of his research at the Department of Ophthalmology at UT Southwestern is to employ innovative computational study design to uncover time-specific molecular patterns in vision disorders and aging.
Outside the lab, Anupam likes staying active by climbing, running and spending time in the mountains. He is also passionate about history, traveling and cooking/baking.
We are actively looking for talented postdocs and graduate students interested in computational and systems biology applications in vision research.
